Blog Battle – A World of Shadows

Hey, I decided to join in  on another one of this blog battles. This word Educate got me thinking a little more of what I should write about since a idea didn’t pop up in my mind as quickly this time. I hope you enjoy this!

revener-demon.jpgI’m walking down the usual same old street on my way home from school. Today is special since it is my 18th birthday but it doesn’t feel like a big deal. I think of it as the day I was born but also one more day growing older which doesn’t seem like so much fun to me. I walk the street as usual not really looking at where I’m going when I see someone, a man closing up to me. I keep heading straight forward thinking the guy will go to the left of me but he doesn’t or should I say the thing doesn’t. Closing up to the man I realize it isn’t a man at all, it’s a sight I have never seen in my entire life before it’s like a creature with no eyes and it looks slimy and gray in the color. When we are few feet away from each other the creature leaps at me and I see the sharp teeth in it’s mouth, thinking I will die. The feeling is scares me so much, it’s scarier than I’d ever imagined and my only wish is to survive. I don’t now why it scares me so much since every time I have thought about the dead it has never scared or bothered me. Every thought and every memory passes my mind like a flash. I hear a slicing sound of a sword and as I look down I see the tip of the word sticking out from the chest of the creature before it is pulled out again. The creature falls to ashes and appearing behind it is a young man looking like he’s my age. He looks strong and handsome with curly brown hair falling down on his forehead. I feel paralyzed and the only thought circling around in my mind is how scared I was to die… knowing I had done nothing my entire life. But from this day everything changed.

Today two years later I am living in a world of shadows fighting creatures like the one who almost killed me the I was 18. I’m living at an academy full of people doing the same thing as me and it’s my last year as a student before becoming a real soldier in a world of the shadows. From my 18th birthday until today has been a adventure of learning what the world really beholds. I have had the honer to be educated about a world of shadows, a world not many people know of and my journey has only begun.

This story was really interesting and fun to write as I took a lot of inspiration from the book- and tv-serie Shadowhunters. I love the book series and like to watch the tv-series since it recreate a part of the books but to be honest the two of them is really different (still like it though :)) I did let my hand just chose the word not really knowing how the story would develop but I hope you liked the way it did!BlogbattleEducate

  1. Your story excited me, your imagery is vibrant. You obviously have the correct thoughts and interests to conjure up dark fantasy/ horror. A few tweaks and this could be an amazing opening for a bigger piece. Keep going I.for one am rooting for you.

  2. As Ellen says, nice imagery and a concept that has potential to grow. Awesome to see you in the BlogBattle too. I use it to flow though blogs I’ve not seen yet and see writers takes on prompts. Really hope to see you next month too now…. no pressure…but a continuation maybe 😊

      1. I find them essential to keep the mind ticking. Often they follow a WIP as short scene backstory too. It mounts up too. Since April I’ve generated 60k words firming up exactly that! The next prompt is up on the BB site now too. My blog is due to post it tomorrow too. Looking forward to seeing you there again 😊
